Preheat oven to 375°F. Cream together sugar, butter, shortening. Add eggs and vanilla extract. Separately, mix flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking soda; then add to butter mixture. Add chocolate chips and nuts. Spoon onto baking sheet. Bake 10 to 15 minutes.
